29 November 2008 – 15 February 2009 WALTER PFEIFFERWalter Pfeiffer (*1946 Beggingen, lives in Zurich) is one of those rare shining lights in the Swiss art world. The famous 1974 exhibition Transformer – Aspekte der Travestie at Kunstmuseum Luzern, curated by Jean-Christophe Ammann, was the first to include the work of Walter Pfeiffer as part of the then emerging art scene and the still tentative discourse about the in-between realm on the borders of masculine-feminine. The act of photography gave Carlo (Pfeiffer’s preferred model at the time) the opportunity of acting out the various different aspects of his own personality and of bringing his ever-changing appearance and expression into synch with his inner self. Since then, Pfeiffer – who is also a draughtsman and sculptor – has openly and enthusiastically embraced homosexual eroticism and the praise of femininity, glamour and identity-changing role play both aesthetically and thematically, creating a richly facetted oeuvre that is to be shown for the first time on this scale in the form of a retrospective exhibition at Fotomuseum Winterthur. The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue (in German and English).
