Anna Oppermann - Ensembles

This fall, the Generali Foundation will show the first comprehensive solo exhibition of the German artist Anna Oppermann (1940-1993) in Austria. Out of perceptions and reflections on events, norms, stories, emotions, and theories, Oppermann developed stringently methodical large-scale image installations, called “Ensembles”. These arrangements of images, photographs, texts and everyday objects, reminiscent of still lifes, are unique and exemplary of 1970s art. At the same time, Oppermann’s oeuvre is most timely, for she early on indicated artistic practices that combine process, action, and statement, and involve the viewer.
