22 March 2007 – 3 June 2007 Peter Fendi and His CircleParallel to the exhibition “Biedermeier - The Invention of Simplicity”, which unites works from the international art metropolises of that period, the Albertina presents a selection of 140 masterpieces of Austrian Biedermeier. Starting out from Peter Fendi, a most renowned watercolourist who paved the way for genre painting’s evolution into the moralising art of Viennese Biedermeier, the show also displays treasures of the art of watercolour by his students Albert Schindler, Carl Schindler, and Friedrich Treml. The major part of the exhibits comes from the comprehensive holdings of the Albertina’s graphic art collection. The exhibition is enriched by important loans from public and private collections, including some twenty paintings.Opening HoursMonday-Sunday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Wednesday till 9 p.m.Description of the MuseumThe Albertina accommodates one of the largest and most precious graphic art collections in the world. There are drawings and prints dating from all major epochs, ranging from late gothic to contemporanean art. |
