Keren Cytter - The Victim

In her books and films the artist and author Keren Cytter (born 1977, Tel Aviv) employs experimental narrative techniques in order to analyse their relationship to social realities. In the process she develops a radically subjective perspective which she uses to counter conventions and rules of literary and cinematographic forms and genres of expression. She was represented in the “Art Statements” at this year’s Art Basel and was awarded the Baloise Art Prize for the work “The Victim”. In this video five nameless figures (friends, relatives or lovers) gather around a supper table. The rhythmic stream of language and the tumultuous action rush towards the disconcerting (if also predicable) climax as the figure who has been made the victim takes her own life.
