20 October 2006 – 7 January 2007 Franz Gertsch: WoodcutsThis exhibition, which is dedicated to one of the major contemporary Swiss artists, concentrates on the works created during the last two decades and in particular on the monumental coloured woodcuts. While the artist achieves an unimagined convergence towards nature in his photorealist works, he frees himself from his model through translating it into the medium of the woodcut with its abstractive, monochrome colouring. In this way Franz Gertsch employs an old technique to explore completely novel means of expression.Opening HoursMonday-Sunday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Wednesday till 9 p.m.Description of the MuseumThe Albertina accommodates one of the largest and most precious graphic art collections in the world. There are drawings and prints dating from all major epochs, ranging from late gothic to contemporanean art. |
