FICCIONES ANALOGICAS: VIDEO IN GALICIA IN THE 80s

Manuel González’s article, Videocreación en Galicia, un iceberg sin base, published in the Festival de Tolosa catalog in 1989, has been an obligatory reference when it comes to creating this display. Taking up the gauntlet, we propose to scratch the surface of that iceberg, revising the proposals, the works, the artists, and the agents of a project that began in Galicia over twenty years ago, and quickly expanded though the rest of the State until it reached international recognition.

There are many questions that arise when we delve into the base of that imaginary iceberg –if such a thing is even possible- through the works, texts, and interviews with the protagonists of that generation. Was the audiovisual creativity of that decade sustained by a productive structure, or was it that initial experimental, creative impulse which contributed to the later structure of the audiovisual industry' At a time when culture exploded throughout the country with the force of a tidal wave, whose revolutionary path began in Galicia during the 1980s after forty years of influence from creators of diverse origins, artists constructed their discourse -their ethical and aesthetic positions- by experimenting with the new media and tools at their disposal.
