Reise/Wege (Travel/Paths). - Works from the Collection of the Photo Gallery

Travelling and getting around is part of the self-conception of artistic activity in general. Artists using the pictorial medium of photography either accompany their travels with pictorial documents or travel with the aim of studying foreign motives.
In the 19th and early 20th century the so-called “travel photography” presented foreign countries, captured exotic destinations and told about foreign customs, buildings and people. In the course of time the intention behind a temporary change of location has gradually changed and become a “journey of finding one’s self” or an oscillating description of the journey as movement as such.
The artists represented in this exhibition include: Gottfried Bechtold, Martin Bruch, Rudolf Lehnert/Ernst Landrock, Paul Albert Leitner, Inge Morath, Alfred Seiland, Elfriede Stegemeyer, Katharina Struber, Helmut Tezak, Charles Wilp, Andrea Witzmann and Elisabeth Wörndl.
