Shiro Matsui: Jonah’s Green. The Mies van der Rohe Insert Project

With Jonah’s Green Shiro Matsui is impressively continuing the series of installative interventions that have made a considerable contribution to exhibition history in the Krefeld villas since the sixties. Matsui, born in Nara, Japan in 1960, is one of a younger generation of artists who open up intercultural, historical, scientific and also architectural conditions by taking a site-specific approach. A new space for aesthetic experience will be created in Krefeld, combining Mies van der Rohe's fluent architectural concept with scientific patterns, revealing a sensual, physical perception strategy with an Eastern tinge.

The museum Haus Esters was built by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe between 1928 and 1930 as residence for the family of Josef Esters (director of the United Silk Weaving Mills, Krefeld).
