Robin Rhode. Walk Off

robin rhode (born 1976 in cape town) belongs to the younger generation of performance artists that has been strongly influenced by allan kaprow, the founder of happenings. robin rhode's works present new approaches to design both formally and contextually. the combination of drawing and performance is characteristic, something which often creates a grotesque effect - for instance when robin rhode draws a car on the wall and then tries to gain access to it by using a crowbar. or when he draws a guitar and amplifier on a wall and films himself playing the guitar. the imagined drawn space becomes reality because the artist treats it as such. in his exhibition at the haus der kunst, the artist will create a series, in which space-consuming drawings and new sculptural works, accompanied by photographic and video works, will form the focus. robin rhode lives and works in berlin and johannesburg.
