Max Peiffer-Watenpuhl - Drawings

Max Peiffer Watenphul (1896 - 1976) is known primarily as a painter of Italian scenes and a master of modern still life. In 1921, during his studies at the Weimar Bauhaus, he visited Italy for the first time and remained closely attached to the country for the rest of his life. The landscape of Southern Italy, in particular, with its palm trees and agava appealed to his soul and found expression in his melancholically serene and timeless paintings.
