26 October 2006 – 28 January 2007 Young-Jae Lee 1111 vesselsOn the floor of the second storey of the Rotunda in the Pinakothek der Moderne the Korean ceramicist Young-Jae Lee has arranged 1111 china bowls to form an unusual installation: Though initially each bowl stands for itself, the juxtaposition of the many bowls stimulates a dialogue between the individual object and the group around it.Each of the bowls has been hand-made by Young-Jae Lee. In concrete terms the theme of the installation deals with its form, colour, volume and shape. From the arrangement in the room there emerges a rhythm created by the differences in size, width, colour, light and shade. The individual bowl refers to the assembly of bowls as a complete entity, only to relate back to itself or to another bowl. This directs the gaze and attention of the viewer to following the patterns of inter-relationships.
