28 September 2007 – 4 November 2007 bruce nauman - one hundred fish fountainThe kestnergesellschaft is showing for the first time in Europe Bruce Nauman’s installation “One Hundred Fish Fountain” (2005). It consists of 97 bronze fish attached to a steel frame and connected by numerous hoses to pumps, so that the fish suck in and spew out water at regular intervals. The water is collected in a large basin and pumped from there into the bodies of the fish, thereby establishing a constant circulation which, however, deliberately disrupts the peaceful and cheerful atmosphere that is typical of fountains. While filling up with water, the fish make unpleasant noises that continue when they expel the water, until the precisely programmed pumps switch off simultaneously and allow the rest of the water to flow noiselessly out of the perforated fish. There is only a short period of calm before the pumps return to action, and the fish again become waterspouts.Opening HoursDaily 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.,Thursday 10 a.m. - 9 p.m., closed on Monday, Holidays 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. Description of the Museum |
