An armchair in the Palais Eynard

A close look at a Restoration period armchair that was part of a group of seats used to furnish the salon of this historic building in Geneva. Located in the Parc des Bastions, it was built between 1817 and 1820 as a place of residence for the financier and philhellene Jean-Gabriel Eynard and his wife Anna Lullin-de Châteauvieux. This is the occasion to examine the chair’s construction, situate it within its historical context and understand its role in the original interior decoration of this luxurious dwelling, thanks to the watercolours by Alexandre Calame that were commissioned by the owner between 1833 and 1836.
