Pictures in embroidery and paint

The Musée d’Art et d’Histoire holds in its collection around a dozen embroidered pictures with painted highlights representing secular genre scenes, often still in their original frames. Highly appreciated in English-speaking countries, this style was also popular in Geneva during the period of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Prospects of Geneva and other clues indicate that these pictures were executed in this city by female artists.
