1 December 2006 – 4 March 2007 The engineer Nicolas Céard and the Simplon routeThe French engineer Nicolas Céard (1745-1821), who trained at the École des Ponts et Chaussées, is mainly known for overseeing the construction from 1801 to 1806 of the Simplon route, ordered by Napoleon to allow his armies to pass into Italy. Remarkable for its time, this magnificent accomplishment is commemorated by the present exhibition with a display of documents, maps and original drawings, most of which are held in Geneva public collections. The exhibit also relates Céard’s work in the Bresse and Bugey regions and the Pays de Gex, particularly Versoix, which was then in French territory and where Céard was mayor from 1790 to 1792.AddressMaison TavelRue du Puits-Saint-Pierre 6 1204 Genève phone +41 22 418 37 00 http://www.ville-ge.ch/musinfo/mahg/musee/tavel/tavel.html Opening HoursDaily 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., closed on Monday.Description of the Museum |
