I am making art - 4 Studies on the Artist’s Body

With the explosion of video and performance as artistic media in the late 1960s, artists
turned increasingly to their own body as a source of inspiration, and a tool of creativity.
At a time when performance is experiencing a renaissance internationally (note the
performance Festival in New York 2006, ‘Performa’; the re-enactments of classic
performers in the Whitechapel Art Gallery London ‘A short history of performance’
2003-6; and the ‘Live Arts Project’ at Tate Modern in 2004) this ambitious exhibition
presents historic video work of artists from Latin America, the USA and Europe of this
period, in juxtaposition with the work of a younger generation of artists from these
regions, to establish a cross generational dialogue.
