3 May 2007 – 26 August 2007 KATACHI. Contemporary applied art from Japan between craft and industry. We imagine life in Japan in extremely heterogeneous ways. On the one hand, we have the Wabi Sabi cherry-blossom aesthetic before our mind’s eye; on the other hand we picture high tech hustle and bustle in huge metropolises. In real everyday Japanese life, the two intermingle. The fusion of longstanding handicrafts traditions and modern design is especially conspicuous in the area of applied art. Materials such as wood, lacquer, paper, textiles, ceramics and metal are used with an uncompromising sense of material ethics, translated into a modern vocabulary of forms. Objects of timeless beauty are the result. A number of designers who have made a name for themselves in industry are now in the process of finding their way back to their roots without losing sight of the present.AddressMuseum für Angewandte KunstSchaumainkai 17 60594 Frankfurt am Main phone +49 69 21 23 40 37 http://www.museumfuerangewandtekunst.frankfurt.de Opening HoursTuesday-Sunday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m. - 9 p.m., closed on Monday.Description of the MuseumThe collection comprehends book art, graphics, islamic art, arts and crafts of eastasia as well as design.opened 1985; Arquitect: Richard Meier |
