22 March 2007 – 17 June 2007 Ornament without ornament. Franz Bette - JewelryThe exhibition »Ornament without Ornament« concentrates on jewellery in the oeuvre of Franz Bette. For decades, jewellery has served the goldsmith and designer Bette as a medium for the elementary realization of his chief artistic concerns. The title of the exhibition, “Ornament without Ornament,” describes the guiding principle of his work, and retraces the path he consciously chose to follow in response to his first encounter with the formulation of this thematic complex in a show by the same name in Zurich in 1966. Minimalism in material, technique and form for a maximum of expression: This is the formula underlying the jewellery of Franz Bette- works revolving around the monumental in the small - since 1964. His programmatic jewellery of the 1960s is still avant-garde forty years later; today his jewellery conception links his fundamental belief in the renunciation of everything superfluous with a more recently emerging need for profusion. The result is ornament which explores new realms of expression in dialogue with itself and its setting.AddressMuseum für Angewandte KunstSchaumainkai 17 60594 Frankfurt am Main phone +49 69 21 23 40 37 http://www.museumfuerangewandtekunst.frankfurt.de Opening HoursTuesday-Sunday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m. - 9 p.m., closed on Monday.Description of the MuseumThe collection comprehends book art, graphics, islamic art, arts and crafts of eastasia as well as design.opened 1985; Arquitect: Richard Meier |
