7 November 2006 – 9 April 2007 Focus on Johannes Verspronck: Portrait of a Seated Woman, ca. 1642-1645 (Inv. No. 703)Following its restoration, Portrait of a Seated Woman by Johannes Verspronck will be presented to the public again for the first time in decades. Alongside his far better known colleague Frans Hals, Verspronck was one of the most sought after portraitists in Haarlem. The exhibition will shed light on the specific artistic circumstances of these two portraitists, their patrons, and their social context. Details of costume make it clear that such portraits served as status symbols. The process of creating the works will be revealed as well as the restoration of the painting and its provenance in one of the best known collections in Hanau during the age of Goethe.Curator: Dr. Mirjam Neumeister AddressStädel Museum / Städtische GalerieSchaumainkai 63 60596 Frankfurt am Main phone +49 69 605 09 80 http://www.staedelmuseum.de Opening HoursTuesday, Friday-Sunday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Wednesday, Thursday 10 a.m. - 9 p.m., closed on Monday.Description of the Museum700 years of European history are represented in a collection of 2,700 paintings, 600 sculptures and 100,000 prints and drawings by artists ranging from Dürer, Holbein and Cranach to Rembrandt, Vermeer, Monet, Van Gogh and Cézanne to Matisse and Picasso, Bacon and Baselitz, Serra and Palermo. |
