3 November 2006 – 28 January 2007 From Tizian to Tiepolo. Venetian Drawings in the Städel MuseumThe exhibition is the result of two years spent examining the Städel’s collection of Venetian drawings. A representative selection of the most important of these sheets offers a survey of the art of drawing in Venice from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century. It combines drawings intended for purposes, such as figure studies, designs for altarpieces and ceiling paintings, autonomous paintinglike compositions, portraits, landscapes and views. The concentration of works from the sixteenth and the eighteenth century, respectively, is in keeping with the heydays of Venetian art: Titian and Tintoretto, as representatives of the sixteenth century, are shown along with the great masters of the eighteenth century: Giambattista and Giandomenico Tiepolo, Piazzetta, Canaletto, Francesco Guardi, and others.Curator: Dr. Julia Schewski-Bock AddressStädel Museum / Städtische GalerieSchaumainkai 63 60596 Frankfurt am Main phone +49 69 605 09 80 http://www.staedelmuseum.de Opening HoursTuesday, Friday-Sunday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Wednesday, Thursday 10 a.m. - 9 p.m., closed on Monday.Description of the Museum700 years of European history are represented in a collection of 2,700 paintings, 600 sculptures and 100,000 prints and drawings by artists ranging from Dürer, Holbein and Cranach to Rembrandt, Vermeer, Monet, Van Gogh and Cézanne to Matisse and Picasso, Bacon and Baselitz, Serra and Palermo. |
