Constellations I: From Yves Klein to A. R. Penck from the Collection of the Städel Museum

Works from the second half of the twentieth century from the collection of the Städel Museum are being presented as part of a new presentation of the collection based on constellations that will change periodically. Constellations I creates spaces that will address pigment in space, the portrait, and the body in isolation. Visitors will encounter unexpected juxtapositions like Joseph Beuys’s Bergkönig (Mountain King) with large-format works on paper by Richard Serra as well as rigorous emphases within the collection around Anselm Kiefer and A. R. Penck.

Description of the Museum

700 years of European history are represented in a collection of 2,700 paintings, 600 sculptures and 100,000 prints and drawings by artists ranging from Dürer, Holbein and Cranach to Rembrandt, Vermeer, Monet, Van Gogh and Cézanne to Matisse and Picasso, Bacon and Baselitz, Serra and Palermo.
