12 October 2008 – 11 January 2009 Reiner RuthenbeckBringing the year of exhibitions at the Kunsthalle to a close will be a Reiner Ruthenbeck retrospective held in conjunction with the Wilhelm Lehmbruck Museum Duisburg. Born in the Rhineland in 1937, Reiner Ruthenbeck is numbered among the leading German sculptors of his generation. He has exhibited works at the documenta, the Venice Biennale and other important major exhibitions on numerous occasions and held a chair at the Münster Art Academy from 1980 until 2000. He has consistently developed his densely wrought oeuvre from the mid 1960s to the present day as quiet and yet centrally important position in sculpture.AddressKunsthalle DüsseldorfGrabbeplatz 4 40213 Düsseldorf phone +49 211 899 62 43 http://www.kunsthalle-duesseldorf.de Opening HoursTuesday-Saturday 12 p.m. - 7 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m. - 6 p.m., closed on Monday.Description of the MuseumHosting an array of exhibitions, but without its own collection, contemporary art movements and positions, as well as their historical and local points of reference, were crucial to the Kunsthalle's program from the start.Ever since the building on the Grabbeplatz opened, it has housed two independent institutions, the Kunsthalle and the Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen. The Kunsthalle, a concrete block built in 1967, is one of the most concise buildings in Düsseldorf, a now rare example of raw architecture. Architects: Beckmann and Brockes |
