15 August 2008 – 9 November 2008 David Shrigley - MonotypienLurking behind this somewhat dry and serious title is a highly engaging show. Monotypes are prints made in a single copy - printed originals, as it were, forming a paradoxical medium that seems predestined for the British artist David Shrigley and his desperate and witty forays into the fields of art, kitsch, and conventions. Shrigley’s monotypes are large-scale pieces that explode with colour, unlike his signature black-and-white drawings with their comic strip aesthetic. But they are steeped in the same bizarre and morbid humour. The works play with familiar motifs, whittling them down to their core to reveal their inherent absurdity. After this lesson in looking, the viewers end up rubbing their eyes, suddenly more awake than before and feeling no less delighted than amazed.15.08.2008, 8 p.m. David Shrigley shows his films Talk (in English) as part of the “KunstBewusst” series. After the films, Shrigley will play music from his computer. Venue: Cinema and roof terrace at Museum Ludwig (lecture room), 1st floor A poster for the exhibition will be available from the Walther König museum bookshop for 20 euros.
