14 October 2006 – 21 January 2007 The nobility of painting. Holland around 1700This exhibition is devoted to Dutch painting between 1670 and 1750. For the first time, the museum presents the most important artists and works from this period after Rembrandt’s death and the ‘Golden Age’ associated with his name. Its objective is to re-evaluate the period and contribute to a new and more positive assessment of its artistic achievements and characteristics. The reason is that the period is still regarded as a time of artistic decline, an era of those who came too late and had to little artistic impetus. Yet, the period boasts a number of eminent names such as the Berckheyde brothers, Jan van der Heyden, Gerard Hoet, Gérard de Lairesse, Rachel Ruysch, Adriaen van der Werff and Jacob de Wit. Roughly 90 paintings will demonstrate that the period deserves a much better reputation and will give it new sparkle and glamour. The exhibition will be organised in conjunction with the Dordrechts Museum and the Staatliche Museen Kassel.AddressWallraff-Richartz-Museum - Sammlung CorboudMartinstrasse 39 50667 Köln phone +49 221 22 12 11 19 http://www.museenkoeln.de Opening HoursTuesday 10 a.m. - 8 p.m., Wednesday-Friday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Saturday-Sunday 11 a.m. - 6 p.m., closed on Monday.Description of the MuseumThe museum is one of the big classical galleries in Germany.
