Child Soldiers – Forced to be Cruel!

According to international estimations, there are 300,000 child soldiers worldwide. They are being recruited for regular armed forces and rebel groups and forced into combat. In many conflicts, child soldiers are a constant component of the military infrastructure. From more than 10 years, many national and international organizations have been making an effort to counteract the situation facing child soldiers and shed light on the subject worldwide.
The exhibition features emotionally-charged photos from Child Soldiers in Sudan, Columbia, Congo, Liberia, Burma, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Exhibition curator Peter Mantello, professor of new media at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Japan and co-curator Leora Khan, a New York based editor and filmmaker assembled a wide range of internationally-renown photographers for this project. Amongst them the British photographer Tim Hetherington who recently was awarded the World Press Photo prize. The exhibition is a cooperation between the Foundation for International Dialogue of the Savings Bank in Bonn and Deutsche Welle.
