Fernand Léger | Paris - New York

Fernand Léger (1881–1955) is one of the principal artists in the Beyeler Collection. The ex-hibition presents his work in concentrated form, from the Cubist-oriented early paintings to the joyous, large formats of the late period. In addition, light will be shed on the American aspects of Léger’s art. The artist not only lived and worked for a long period in the U.S. but had a considerable influence on American art. Addressing this relationship for the first time, the exhibition will include major works by American artists from the second half of the twen-tieth century. Apart from the prime Léger witnesses Roy Lichtenstein and Ellsworth Kelly, Frank Stella, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, and Andy Warhol will be represented as well.
