Olafur Eliasson

The Joan Miró Foundation is presenting an exhibition of work by Olafur Eliasson, the winner of the first Joan Miró Prize.

The show, which is sponsored by the Fundació Caixa Girona, has been specially designed for the Miró Foundation by Eliasson.A parallel exhibition will be held at the Centre Cultural Caixa Girona - Fontana d’Or in Girona.

The work of the Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson, born in Copenhagen in 1967, focuses on sensorial perception, the laws of physics and natural phenomena. He works in a variety of media, but is particularly known for his sculptural installations for specific places. His use of light, water, ice and clouds in these spaces is a reflection of hisIcelandic roots, and the complexity and diversity of his work have made it a point of reference in the current international art scene.

Olafur Eliasson was awarded the Joan Miró Prize in 2007 for his status as one of the leading artists of our times and for his spirit of exploration, innovation, commitment and freedom, all of which are qualities to be found in Miró’s art.

In the last few years, Eliasson has shown his work in major museums around the world.“Light Lab”, a project consisting of 12 installations, can be seen until the end of this year at the Portikus centre in Frankfurt. He is also preparing “Take your Time:Olafur Eliasson”, a retrospective for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art that will then transfer to the MoMA in New York.
