The Painter’s Sculpture's

We are primarily familiar with them as great painters: Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Max Beckmann, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Joan Miró, Max Ernst, and Georg Baselitz. Their valuable contribution to twentieth-century sculpture is sometimes overlooked. By introducing new themes and materials, they provided fresh and inspiring impulses that revolutionized the medium and continue to characterize it to this very day. By directly comparing their paintings with their sculptural works, the exhibition in Baden-Baden discloses fascinating relationships and illuminating insight into the artists’ working processes. Outstanding loans from international public and private collections make possible an unusual view of the important currents and artist personalities from roughly the past hundred years.
